Eu initiatives
The EU programs disposing of Structural funds have become four after the revision of terms and conditions intended for the aids sent to EU member States.

Interreg III
is an EU initiative part of the Regional Development European Fund aimed at the cooperation between regions of the European Union for the 2000-2006 period. The main goal of the new Interreg's phase is to enforce the economic and social cohesion of the EU by promoting from one side the trans-border, international and interregional cooperation and to the other side the balance development of the territory. Particular and careful attention has to be given to interest out forward by those very peripheral regions and by those regions located along the external borders of the EU towards the candidate country for the admission

Equal,
funded by the European Social Funds (FSE), leads to the testing of new strategies aimed at fighting discriminations and inequalities which make victims either amonst those who work either for those looking for a job.
The main components of the EQUAL Project are Trans-national Cooperation, Innovation, Active Participation, partnership approach, dissemination and integration within policies and practice. The activities develop around for pillars: employment, adaptation, equal opportunities between men and women. The same interest have been addressed to the asylum seekers.

Urban II
is an EU initiative part of the Regional Development European Fund in favour of sustainable development of European Union cities and towns which find in a critical situation for the 2000-2006 periods. After the first phase of Urban I made in the 1994-1999 period, the second phase called Urban II has been conceived in order to promote the elaboration and the actuation of innovative development models in favour of the social and economic recover of critical urban areas. Such initiative also considers the enforcement of information and experience exchange in the subject of urban sustainable development within the European Union.

Leader Plus (Leader +)
project is aimed at helping rural operators worldwide to consider the potential long-term development of their native region. By the promotion of high quality and original integrated strategies in the field of timely extensive development, this initiative gives priority to partnership activities and to the network of exchange of experiences. For the 2000-2006 periods, the total amount of the expense is issued by FEOGA's Orientation Department for the greater part, while the rest comes by public and private contributions.

Within the area of the System, two main projects are ongoing: EQUAL and LEADER +. The Municipalities of the Area participate, moreover, to the EQUAL LASA project through the territorial partner called Murgia Sviluppo.

Moreover, other EU projects are ongoing which also invest on the INTERREG initiative. Mostly all the Municipalities are interested even though at the moment neither the budget nor their relative time of elaboration has been defined.
